HEAVY rain flooded roads and properties in the Chard area yesterday (Thursday, May 16).

The heavy downpour flooded roads and residents also reported flooded properties and garages.

The Oak End Way area was one of the areas affected.

Flood damage was also reported in Crimchard and was temporarily made safe, while waiting for a permanent repair which will be undertaken next week, a spokesperson for Somerset Council said.

A Somerset Council’s team was out to assess the situation and residents are urged to report any issues to the authority.

A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: "Yesterday our Highways Teams were in Chard following a localised downpour which saw nearly 20mm of rain falling in a short amount of time.

"This resulted in some flash flooding of roads and footpaths resulting in debris on the roads which the team is dealing with today as part of the clear-up work.

"Our Emergency Planning, Response, and Recovery Team is continuing to liaise with Chard Town Council to assess any outstanding issues affecting residents and businesses.
