A KEY road leading to a major roundabout in Somerset is set to be made one-way for over two months to facilitate gas works.

West Coker Road in Cheddar will be closed from Monday, May 13, until Monday, May 27 - traffic lights will also be in place on Hendford Hill and Dorcheser Road during this period.

From Monday, May 27, traffic lights plus a one-way system will be in place on Hendford Hill until the end of July.

The closures come as Wales & West Utilities will be upgrading the gas network to help keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.

Over 1,800 metres of gas pipe will be upgraded as a result of the works.

Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work, said: "The work in Yeovil is progressing well. We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

"We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum."
