Notification of Planning Application -Development of National Significance (DNS) Proposed solar energy hub at land to the south of Llanwern Steelworks on the Caldicot levels
A planning application is currently being prepared for the erection of a solar energy hub generating 49.9MW net installed generating capacity, comprising 245,000 ground mounted solar panels, battery storage units (200 units), underground cabling, grid connection hub, associated infrastructure, landscaping and environmental enhancements, for a temporary period of 30 years.
The proposals seek to provide green energy for over 15,000 homes and save over 21,000 tonnes of CO2 per annum. Sheep would graze the site, which would maintain the agricultural use of the land. The incorporation of a battery storage area will allow for the energy captured during the day to be stored and re-used during times when energy is in greater demand.
The application is intended for submission as a Development of National Significance (DNS). This means that it will be determined by Welsh Minister based on planning merits and national priorities. Plans for the scheme and further details relating to the project can be viewed at: www.llanwerncommunityenergy.com. The application is currently subject to a six week period of pre-application consultation. As part of this consultation, we now invite the views and comments of the local community so that these may be considered and addressed in the preparation of the final submission. In this respect, responses may be received via the following lines of communication: Via email: engage@Llanwerncommunityenergy.com Via Post: York House, Blackbrook Business Park, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 2PX
Responses must be received before 14th September 2017. There will be a further opportunity to comment on the application once it has been submitted to the Planning Inspectorate and updates on the application process will provided through our website.
