THE candidates for the Bridgwater and West Somerset seat have given their reaction to the result.
LibDem's Theo Butt Philip, who came second in the poll.
Conservative Ian Liddell-Grainger, who received 24,675 votes, just over 45% of the overall vote, said: “I will continue to do what I can for the West Somerset and Bridgwater constituency.
“I don’t get everything right but I will always try to do what I can. It’s a great honour once again to be elected to represent Bridgwater and West Somerset. Thank you very much indeed for putting your trust in me.”
LibDem Theo Butt Philip, who received 28% of the overall vote, said: “Tonight’s result shows that the LibDems are a true and radical force in Somerset and that we are the real alternative to the Conservatives.
“We are on the march – do not take us for granted.”
Kathy Pearce, of Labour, who was third.
Labour’s Kathy Pearce said: “I would like to thank my campaigners who have been out night after night for me.
“There will be many decisions to be made for the future of Bridgwater of which I will be glad to be a part.”
British National Party candidate Donna Treanor and Independent Bob Cudlipp thanked their voters for supporting them, while UK Independence Party candidate Peter Hollings said his first election campaign had been “an experience”.
Charles Graham, of the Green Party, used his post-result speech to criticise the political status quo, saying this General Election would change nothing.
