TWO Taunton solicitors are celebrating after they scooped top prizes at the recent Devon and Somerset Law Society Awards.

Rachel Thain and Jasmine Butler were both recognised at the inaugural event on Thursday, March 3.

The two individual award winners both work for Slee Blackwell Solicitors.

Rachel Thain, who works in abuse law, was named Legal Hero for showing “exceptional dedication and commitment”, and going the extra mile fighting for the legal rights of victims of sex abuse.

Personal injury executive Jasmine Butler, also based at the firm’s Taunton office, won Support Team Member of the Year, an award sponsored by Paignton Zoo, for “demonstrating dedication and motivation beyond the call of duty.”

The firm was also runners up in the categories of Solicitor of the Year, Leader of the Year and Team of the Year.

Partner James McNally said: “To have been nominated in 5 categories and won two of them is a tremendous achievement for this firm and our Taunton office in particular. I am very proud of all our staff and am especially delighted for Rachel and Jasmine who deserve the recognition.”

The black tie event, compered by BBC legal affairs expert Joshua Rozenberg, was held at Sandy Park, the home of Exeter Chiefs.

The band of the Royal Marines opened the ceremony, followed by a speech from the Law Society president who voiced concerns about access to justice, which he described as being under siege.

Twelve awards were handed out at the gala dinner, six to legal practices and six to individual lawyers.
