A TAUNTON woman whose fox terrier was attacked by another dog is warning pet owners to beware while out walking.

Angela Selway's 12-year-old dog, Sadie, was left with wounds to its throat and leg following an incident on Tuesday morning around the Dorchester Road area.

Miss Selway told the County Gazette she was innocently walking her dog when she saw a man start to run across the grass near Slapes Close.

She said: "As he ran, he started to call and I thought 'he must have a dog'. This thing came hurtling towards me, it was massive.

"I knew there was nothing I could do. He was shouting 'pick your dog up', but because I have spinal injuries and replacement knees there was no way I could do that.

"If my dog had been any smaller the other dog would have killed it."

Miss Selway said she was worried the animal, which she described as looking a bit like a pit bull, would attack children or other pets.

She added: "Any owner of a dog needs to be aware that this animal is in the area.

"I simply don't feel safe walking out on my own any more."
