A charity bingo evening at Maisemore village hall on March 22 raised £1,000 to help farming families affected by flooding in Somerset and elsewhere.

Arranged by the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution’s county fundraising committee led by chairman David Hewlett, the event attracted 100 guests who also enjoyed a hot chilli dinner provided by South West Catering.

Regional manager Jenni Thompson said: “The evening was planned well before the Budget put bingo in the media spotlight, but the money raised was certainly headline news for us and a wonderful example of how the farming community supports fellow farmers in hard times.

“Thank you to everyone who supported us, especially Green Farm Seeds who sponsored the event and paid for the vital bingo machine, and Anthony Wilkes who was the caller.

“It was a great evening’s entertainment which raised vital funds for R.A.B.I.’s emergency fund.”
