IN the testing times of the rapid decrease in milk price that is squeezing many dairy farmers into despair, auctioneer Derek Biss of Greenslade Taylor Hunt suggests: “Now may be a good opportunity to cash in the machinery that has been superseded by larger models and taking up shed space.”

With the largest one-day machinery sale in the South-West approaching, the Walford Cross Collective sale on April 16 may be the ideal time to release some much needed revenue to help weather the storm.

Now in its 61st year, the sale, which is held just off the A38 between Bridgwater and Taunton, is the largest one-day event in the South of England, with usual entries of around 3,500 lots of tractors, vehicles, machinery, implements and effects.

The reputation has been built over many years with the quality of entries increasing year on year and the sale now attracts buyers from all across the UK as well as Ireland and mainland Europe.

With the sale guaranteed to have a selection of all the regular items of machinery it allows buyers to travel in confidence to be sure that they are able to find what they are looking for.

Mr Biss said: “With Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s weekly involvement at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, we have 12 experienced auctioneers to draw upon to conduct up to five auctions at any one time during the sale day.

“The preparation for this mammoth sale began last year following a record sale and we hope to continue the success and attract more entries than ever before.”

He added: “This sale is ideal for both the farmer, who has a one item he is looking to cash in, as well as the farmer who has a mini and major dispersal sale that can be included within the sale as a special feature saving on advertising and other on farm sale costs.”
