A new wild animal care project has been launched which aims to provide Cornwall with a Cornish wildlife rehabilitation, hospital, and resource centre.

Wendy Winstanley who is leading the project comments “It is a surprise to most people that within Cornwall we do not have an organisation which specializes in looking after all our wild animals after the trauma of being injured, abandoned, or sick. In most cases these wild animals have to go through further stress while being transported out of the county before being treated. Then if they survive the treatment, they are then transported back in to Cornwall.

There are many stalwart individuals all over the county working hard without much support or resources, helping the animals that come their way.

Our first aim is to build a register of people who are doing this work and have experience and knowledge. This can then be shared, as well as putting everyone in touch, creating a large network of wild animal care and a pool of expert knowledge.”

The launch took place at Pinetum Park and Pine Lodge Gardens which has kindly offered an office for the project while it gets established.

Wendy continues “In the long term we hope to raise enough funds to have a specialised rehabilitation hospital in mid Cornwall which would act as the base and resource centre in support of the many people around Cornwall doing such great work out there. We already have some great support, and if anyone feels they may be able to help in any way, or you are one of the many people caring for injured wild animals and would like support, please do get in touch."
