To promote Cornish agriculture the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association (RCAA) aim to educate the general public about farming and food production, and have established regular events to do so.

Farm & County Days were introduced in 2013 by RCAA and Cornwall Food & Farming Group, which aim to educate primary school children about farming and food production.

The annual event has been attended by 4,500 seven to nine-year-old pupils from schools across Cornwall, which is held at the Royal Cornwall Showground at Wadebridge.

At the events children enjoy hands-on, interactive experiences showing them what farmers and food producers do, and now 1,500 pupils from 41 schools are booked to attend this year's event held on March 21 to 22.

Exhibits created cover aspects of the process which range from learning about the importance of soil and discovering the machinery used to sow seeds through to caring for an harvesting cereal crops.

Local food producers pick up the story, explaining how they take various foods from raw materials through to finished products.

Steve Michell, RCAA media and education manager, said: "The response from the event each year from the children is phenomenal.

"They really do soak up all of the facts and information they learn.

"The teachers and parents tell us that they go away and will talk about their experiences for days.

"There's a real need to ensure the next generation know where their food comes from so they can make informed purchasing decisions and properly understand the food production industry.

"Some of the pupils will also go on to be our farmers and good producers of the future."
