The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) are urging people to get involved with their Farmhouse Breakfast campaign, which promotes British produce and helps families in hardship.

Last year RABI served more than 1,250 breakfasts across 25 campaign events, generating over £16,000 for farming people in financial need.

The charity say that people can get involved by hosting a breakfast event, or by attending a nearby event.

Stephen Noble, head of fundraising for RABI, believes this is an important event because "making time for breakfast is important, but so is making time for others."

Stephen said: "There is no shame in turning to RABI to get you through the bad times. We receive incredible support from the farming sector because most who work in the industry understand its uncertainties."

A spokesperson for RABI said: "It's a shocking truth, but even in today's farming world people can sometimes struggle to feed themselves.

"In 2015, RABI gave out more than £14,000 worth of food vouchers to around 40 families and those struggling to put food on their tables are often the elderly, sick, disabled or retired.

"Many of these people have given their lives to the farming industry but simply fallen on hard times.

"Farming can be a volatile business and anyone can get into difficulty through no fault of their own.

"Things such as illness, accidents and animal disease can strike at any time."
