The National Sheep Association (NSA) is delighted to announce that chief executive Phil Stocker has been made an associate of the Royal Agricultural Societies.

The honour was bestowed by the Council for the Awards of the Royal Agricultural Societies, acting on behalf of the UK's four national royal agricultural societies.

It recognises the outstanding contribution by an individual to the understanding, efficiency and well-being of agriculture and is given to invited individuals who demonstrate the required high level of achievement.

Phil was recognised for his work with NSA to communicate key topics to sheep farmers and raise the profile of the sector outside of agriculture.

Phil said: "I really do feel honoured to have been put forward for this prestigious award and to have come through the process as an Associate Member of such an important and influential society.

"The awards hold real standing and bring you within the company of so many creative, successful and forward-thinking people.

“The award embraces not only practical farming and the development of new husbandry practices, but also research, technology, economics, education, communication and administration.

"I’d like to thank the people who nominated me for the award and I look forward to being involved in the various activities carried out by the societies.”

The presentation ceremony and celebration was held in the House of Lords, courtesy of Baroness Byford, where Phil shared the occasion with wife Maxine, and NSA Trustee and John Geldard.
