South West rural insurance company Cornish Mutual has organised three free workshops in April as part of its ongoing campaign to improve farm safety.

The events are part of a series of farm health and safety events planned throughout 2017, highlighting health and safety on farms and with the aim of cutting the number of deaths and serious injuries in agriculture across the region.

The first of the free events took place on Thursday, April 20, at Griggs Country Store, Pendennis, and the second was on April 25 at Frome Market.

The next event will be April 27 at Hitchcocks in Willand.

Delivered by Cornish Mutual, with support from industry experts, those attending will experience practical demonstrations identifying on-farm risks and how to manage them.

There will be information available to ensure guests are kept up-to-speed with changes in the law, insurance, regulations and best practice.

The events include presentations on first aid, safe use of tele-handlers, abrasive wheels and chainsaws, farm fire safety and young drivers tractor regulations.

Speakers include Arthur Denton and Naomi Dobson from Cornish Mutual, Pip Tompkins and Chris Lutey of Kernow Training and Roy Higgins of Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Services.

DWF LLP provided regulatory advice on health and safety generally at the Griggs Country Store event and a similar session at Hitchcocks Business Park.

The Frome Market event will feature a discussion led by Thrings Solicitors on family farming succession planning.

The upcoming event will run between 9.30am – 3pm, with refreshments on arrival and lunch provided.
