The magical £2,000 bracket was exceeded at a recent livestock market.

Kivells Dairy Auctioneers saw a massive 32 dairy cows exceed the £2,000 bracket for the dispersal of the well-respected ‘Mabec’ herd of Pedigree Holsteins on behalf of Messrs GG and JM Jenkin of Helston in West Cornwall at Holsworthy Livestock Market on November 29.

Speaking after the sale, Kivells dairy auctioneer Mark Bromell said: “This was one of the best herds of cows seen through any Kivells dairy sale rings for many years with an exceptional trade seen throughout the day.”

The top call of the day was 2550gns given for ‘Mabec Wyman Playmate VG85’ going to its new home with John Daw and family who farm near Crediton in Mid Devon.

There was tremendous interest also in the dry cows with the best hitting 2050gns which went off to its new home with James Warren of Penzance.

The averages stood at 52 in milk cows/heifers - £2,031, 4 dry cows - £1,771, 25 in calf heifers - £1,380 and 10 maiden heifers - £1,323.
