Young Farmers Clubs throughout Dorset have been busy competing.

Situations Vacant Competition

The interviews for the Situations Vacant Competition saw two members going head to head. An extremely useful competition, it is a job interview on a chosen job choice from members who provide their cover letter and CV in advance and so a good social skill to gain and experience.

Poppy Burrough from Marshwood Vale YFC came first and Hayley Mills from Gillingham & Shaftesbury YFC came second. The judges said the members would have no problem at all in a job interview situation. The club would like to thank Matthew Price and Jim Horsington for judging the competition and for giving such great feedback. Ms Burrough will go forward to represent Dorset YFC at South West Area in March.

Junior Public Speaking

This competition also took place at Kingston Maurward College with a total of four teams taking part. Each team consists of a Chairman, Speaking and Proposer of the Vote of Thanks of which the Speaker of another club will choose their own subject and then answer a question from the Proposer. The competition is open to members under the age of 16.

Nick Samson was the judge for the event and Best Speaker was awarded to Joanna House from Marshwood Vale YFC. Freya Southcott, Joanna House and Archie Staples will go forward to South West Area to represent Dorset YFC in March.

Final results were: 1st Marshwood Vale YFC, 2nd Sherborne YFC Team 1, 3rd Beaminster YFC, 4th Sherborne YFC Team 2
