Due to the weak pound imports are less competitive. Carcase weight restrictions and males previously destined to be bulls, now being kept as steers have also conspired to make home supplies tight.

Steers topped at 217.5ppk twice firstly for an absolute best Limousin from Mr J & Mrs Vinnicombe & Son, who also sold other very smart Limousins at 216.5 and 200.5ppk. 217.5ppk was also achieved by Messrs R & S Dare with a proper butchers type Limousin (531kg and well covered). Lightweight, lean, shapely Blue feeding steers (21/22m) from Mr DP Leaney met calls of 216.5 (488kg) 213.5 (560kg) and 211.5ppk (512kg). An extreme muscle, lean and very empty Blue steer (540kg & 29m) from Messrs SGE Hatch & Son hit 203.5ppk.

Shapely Limousin (592kg & 23m) from Mr ML & Mrs EE Edwards rose to 199.5ppk.

Top was 165.5ppk for a top drawer Limousin from Mr DF Rawlins (757kg) who also sold a well fleshed Simmental at 147.5ppk (716kg). Further well fed, clean type Limousins at 155.5 and 151.5ppk (833kg & 700kg) from Mr RWM Westlake & Sons. Further good Limousin at 148.5ppk (652kg) from Mr RJ Wall. Further Simmentals at 150.5 (695kg) Mr PC Thomas and 143.5ppk (780kg) Mr HK & Mrs LS Cligg. Native cows rose to 143.5ppk for an Angus (617kg) also from Mr RL Kent.
