Dairy Cattle (83): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a much larger entry to include some well bred youngstock saw a good company of purchasers, despite it being silage making weather.

Fewer grade 1 heifers forward saw several potential purchasers going home wanting more. The trade remains selective with the most demand for heavy milking cows and heifers.

Messrs FG Summerhayes & Son continue to present first class heifers and topped the market again this week at £1800 for a home bred pedigree Otter heifer. Others to £1770 from Messrs RJ Goss & Son; £1740 from Mr DJ Cheacker; £1710 and £1660 from Messrs M & K Churchill & Son; £1630 from Mr RH Webb and £1610 from Mr AP Ractliffe.

Top price was £1005 for a 12m Limousin steer from Messrs NCJ & VM Froom & Son when others sold to £975 (11m) and £915 (x2). Other Limousin to £980 (13m) from Messrs EA & DA Ellis. A smart consignment from Messrs MEJ Branfield & Sons saw Charolais steers to £952 and £890 (14m). Angus steers to £865 (11m) from Messrs EJ & RJ Mills. Others from Mr B Calder to £800 (10m). Few top Simmental forward when the best sold to £780 from Mr BW Westcott, who also had Blues to £760 and £745.

Leading the Suffolk Mule shearling was Mr J Simons to £130 (x2) which was closely followed by Mr PJ Hobbs at £125. North Country Mules to £125 (x2) from Messrs DL & ME Gillard. Smaller shearling generally £100-£110. Overall average £101.82.

Goats (29): A smaller entry but trade very strong when nannies sold to £96.50 from Mr S Jacks and £94, £86 and £85 from Mr DJ Yeatman.

Stock Rams (9): A handful of stock rams forward sold to a steady trade. A full mouth Texel ram from Mr J Salmon to £122.
