PROPERTY specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt are pleased to report the successful sale of one of Devon’s oldest pubs - The Stag at Rackenford - parts of which are believed to date back to the 12th Century.

The agents were quoting a guide price of £325,000 for the traditional thatched Grade II listed pub in the heart of the village, just a mile and a half from the busy North Devon Link Road.

The pub has been closed since the autumn, although the new owner intends to revive the fortunes of this much-missed hostelry. With four/five bedrooms there is also scope to provide guest accommodation.

The Stag is the epitome of the quintessential Devon pub, with exposed beams, slate floor, a large inglenook fireplace and a host of other character features, along with a number of dining areas. Outside there is an attractive beer garden. There is also a large function room, which doubles as a skittle alley.

The pub is conveniently situated close to the A361 North Devon link road between Tiverton and South Molton.

Richard Webber, Partner at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s South Molton office, who handled the sale, commented: “The market for public houses has not been easy in recent years, although it has to be said The Stag is a bit special, boasting a long history and exceptional character. We wish the new owner every success.”
