Dairy Cattle (100): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report for the last 4 weeks we have penned 100 dairy cows and followers, which is a record for this market and the larger numbers are drawing more purchasers from further afield. This ensured a good trade for all but the very poorest. 2 Vendors from Carmarthenshire, 1 from Norfolk, 2 from Swansea, 1 from Oxford and another Vendor from Reading, Berks hopefully returned home satisfied with their results. We are now a centre that caters for the whole of the South of England and Wales.

Best heifers again approached £2000, when no real stars were on offer the top price was £1950 for East Avercombe Farms, South Molton. Other leading prices £1900 and £1750, HR Lewis, Carmarthen; £1900, Messrs RJ Goss & Son, Devizes; £1870, Mr RC Taylor; £1840, Messrs FG Summerhayes & Son; £1810, Messrs PD & SA Godfrey; £1810, Messrs JR & C Miller; £1800, Mr ET Summerfield & Son, Oxford and £1730 for Mr SJ Cheacker. Fewer cows forward to £1520 for a home bred Ayrshire (2nd calver) from Will Tratt. Others £1480, Snook Ltd; £1470, Mr D Powell and £1430, Messrs M & K Churchill & Son. Shorthorns to £1220, Snook Ltd and cross bred heifers to £1620 and £1440 for Mr RH Webb.

A large entry of 19 incalf heifers saw the best bred to £1310 and £1300 for Mr A Neill. Others £1280 and £1260 from Mr JHR Bailey of East Sussex.

Calves more difficult to sell to £250 from Messrs RJ & MA Curtis.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a reduced entry of strong stores at 713 head, after a busy maize harvesting week, yet still part of a big entry of 1137 with the stirks and sucklers.

Best cattle are still an excellent trade but the best cattle are very few and far between and when they enter the ring everybody wants them. Other types are getting smaller as they become more and more weathered as Autumn creeps on.

Busk Calves & Stirks (417): Dedicated ring for rearing cattle up to 400kg.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report numbers begin to build as stock are pulled off the fields to result in an entry of 417. A selective trade with quality still being rewarded and suckler bred heifers in strong demand.

Top price steer was £890 for a Charolais (12m) Mr DP Perrin. Others to £850 from Mr PWJ Land. Other notable entries included a superb run of Charolais cross Herefords from a new Vendor Messrs T Bamlett, who sold 3 and 4m steers to £755 (x5) £700 (x3) £675 (x4) and heifers of the same age to £680. An excellent show of cattle and thank you for your support. £785 (x2) for a pair of Limousin steers from Messrs AJ & TLJ Hawkins, who also made £640 (x2) for Simmental steers.

Heifers to £895 for a Limousin (11m) from Mr S & Mrs P Boyer, who made £895 for a Limousin heifer (11m) and £855 for a (9m) Limousin steer. Well done. Several heifers £600-£650.

Best of the ewe lambs to £84 (x3) from Messrs JM & W Rodgman for Suffolk Mules. Charollais cross Suffolk from the same Vendor to £79. Stock Rams (61): A good entry of 61 rams this week sold to an improved trade. When a good crowd of buyers were in attendance the clearance rate worked out at 84%. Top price this week went to Mr S Barfoot who sold a stylish Texel 2T for £370. A cracking Charollais 2T forward from Messrs NF Clothier & Sons Ltd sold to £340. Other 2T Charollais from Messrs G & J Chorley sold to £315. More rams again next week.

Goats (13): A small entry of 13 small goats sold to a top price of £53 and £50 from Mr A Dickinson.
