Store Cattle, Sucklers & Stirks (1162): Store Cattle & Grazing Cows (755): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an increased entry of 755 stores, part of 1162 with the sucklers and stirks, when quality was generally improved. Not too many fleshed cattle but many less weathered types. Some cattle run too close to or having gone overage but also some good quality feeding stores on offer to satisfy the increased number of buyers present. As numbers dry up elsewhere, buyers return to Sedgemoor safe in the knowledge that they can secure a load. Consequently trade firmer.

Cull Sows & Boars (13): Best of the day £104 and £100 from Mr GW Gibbins when the majority sold between £65-£96. 2 boars forward sold at £88 and £70. Overall average £74.

Weaners (111): A good entry when the best stronger types met a good trade. The strongest sold at £52 from Mr SR Horn. Smaller younger weaners more difficult to place and ran at £15-£25.

Stores (158): Another very good entry lacking the shine and trade of our last sale. Top of the day £112 for a good run from Messrs LE Miller & Son and £110 from Mr MT Churchill. Overall average £68.25.

Top was 224ppk for top drawer Limousin cross Devon steer from Messrs W Moore & Sons, Rackenford, who sold other similarly bred steers at 208 and 204.5ppk. Quality near pure Limousin steers from Mr J & Mrs S Vinnicombe & Son, Ottery St Mary met calls of 216.5 and 212ppk. Tremendous, lean, black Limousin cross Blue steers from Mr DH & Mrs SM Churchill, South Chard hit 208.5 and 207ppk. A barley Blue steer from Mr SER Hunt, Kilve rose to 205.5ppk.

Native steers from Mr RJ & Mrs AM Pedrick, Buckfastleigh saw Angus at 201 and 199.5ppk.

Heifers peaked at 214.5ppk for a near pure Limousin from Mr J & Mrs S Vinnicombe & Son, who sold another Limousin cross at 202.5ppk. A superb run of heifers from Mr PJ Hobbs, Minehead saw a Limousin at 214ppk and Charolais at 205.5, 201.5, 195.5, 194.5 twice and 194ppk. A pure Charolais from Mr G Vining, Axbridge hit 200.5ppk. 194.5ppk was called again for a red Limousin from Mr MW & Mrs E Edwards, Congresbury. Barley Blue at 190.5ppk from Mr SER Hunt.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a much reduced entry of cows but a much improved show in terms of quality. Some bone shakers but many less in proportion.

Top was 150.5ppk for an outstanding Blue cow from Mr JA & Mrs YJ Hopkins, Brent Knoll. The price made all the more impressive as the cow was non assured.
