Dairy Cattle (73): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a super entry of generally good quality cows and heifers met a packed ringside and resulted in a level trade but not at the higher levels of 2 months ago. This especially applied to the best, when a top price was £1940 for Messrs FG Summerhayes & Sons’ home bred heifer. Others to £1840 and £1640 from Mr JW Read & Son of Norfolk; £1800 for Mr HR Lewis, Carmarthen; £1790 and £1660 from Mr P Snell; £1740 from Messrs M & K Churchill & Son; £1770 from Mr MC Powell and £1700 from Snook Ltd.

Crossbreds in demand to £1490 from Mr R Webb. Others £1380 Messrs TG & MG Wooff & RG & E Powell of Abergavenny and £1340 from Mr R Lewis.

R Plank’s dispersal from Reading saw 2nd calved cows to £1520 and £1440. Others to £1390 from Messrs A & W Vigus.

The incalf heifer trade was much stronger to £1380, £1310 and £1260, all from Frank Luff. The calf trade mirrored that of the incalf heifers being stronger to £300 x4 for John Colgrove of Cornwall. Others to £290 x4 for Messrs JW & LJ Hembrow.

The best sold to £83.50 for a smart pen from Mr WJ Pearce. Breeding Ewes (117): A small entry of 117 breeding ewes, which lacked any quality runs, sold to a selective trade. Suffolk cross 2T’s running with a Charollais ram topped at £88 from Compton Farms. Ewe lambs from Mr P Webber sold at £74 with Poll Dorset 2T/4T/FM’s from Mr S Harris to £69.

Stock Rams (29): Less rams forward sold to a difficult trade due to the time of year. Top price this week went to Messrs NF Clothier & Sons who sold a Charollais 2T to £180, when another from the same home sold to £145.

Cull Sows & Boars (31): Large entry with a good run of 17 from David Green to a top of £108 (x5) when others sold to £104 (x4). Overall average for the cull sows £87.87. 1 cull boar at £80 from Messrs J & R Hopkins.

Weaners (87): Another good entry with keen interest all around. Smallest 8-12 week olds sold at £26, when stronger well made weaners sold to £43 from Mr S Whitaker and £41 from Mr A Taylor. Overall average £22.59.

Stores (111): Wonderful entry sold to a brighter steady trade. Top price £121 from Brian Storey. Others £120 from A Fewings and lighter types sold to £110 for a good run from Terry Miller. Overall average for stores stood at £68.08.

When completing your pig movement licence under 4. FCI declaration the box alongside Production System must be completed with either “indoor reared” or “outdoor reared” as this information is required. Could all Vendors complete in addition the Market Pig Entry Form.
