PREPARATIONS are well in hand for the biannual Autumn Sporting Sale at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s Taunton salerooms on Friday, October 7.

The sale and its partner spring event are key dates in the auctioneers’ calendar and attract vendors and buyers from around the country and across the globe.

The eagerly anticipated event has already attracted a fine range of sporting prints and pictures.

Among these is a charming study of a saddled and bridled dark bay Hunter titled Carnation. The work by F.M. Hollams is signed and dated '45.

Frances Mabel Hollams was a well-regarded painter of horses and dogs in the first three decades of the 20th Century. She studied in Paris at a time when most of the art schools did not accept women. She was one of the first female Royal Academicians.

The sale at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, will include mounted antlers, hunting crops and whips along with hunting horns and buttons.

Field sports provide a major portion of the sale, but other items of sporting interest from football, rugby, cricket and golf will also feature.

Ceramics and decorative items always appeal at this particular sale. A range of Beswick and other animal figures will be included.

The long-established sale is put together by Saleroom Manager, Stuart Triggol, who sources items throughout the year for this specialist event. Entries are being accepted until Monday, September 12.
