Ram Lambs sold as store lambs are to be declared. Those lots so declared to not contain any ram lambs, which are found post sale to contain undeclared ram lambs, will attract a 25% reduction in the sale price of any ram lambs found.

Breeding Ewes (1670): Another large catalogued entry of 1670 breeding ewes sold to a variable trade, when North Country Mule shearlings were noticeably sought after. Goats (7): A small entry saw nannies to £80 from Mr A Dickenson to average £62.29.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report another larger entry of cull cattle when fleshed types were in very short supply. Last week saw the first day of autumn and many cows are already looking “washed” of all flesh.

Top was 136.5ppk for a very smart Limousin cow from Mr MJ Britton, Tiverton, who also sold a good Angus at 120ppk. A shapely Simmental from Mr R Binning, Draycott rose to 131ppk. A bodied Blue from Mr H & Mrs NM Wall & Sons, Highbridge met a call of 119.5ppk.

Fleshed Devons from Washingpool Farm, Bridport hit 115.5ppk twice. Steaking sucklers 100 to 108.5ppk. Plain 90ppk. Very plain or small below, when some were below 55ppk.

Sucklers sold to £989.63 for the Limousin from Mr MJ Britton, when the Simmental from Mr R Binning returned at £970.71.

Dairy breeds rose to 126.5ppk for an exceptional Brown Swiss from Mr AA House & Son, Ashill.
