Store Lambs (2985): A similar large entry of 2985 store lambs sold to an overall slightly dearer trade for all presented, however a higher proportion of smaller lambs pegged the averages to last week’s level. The best sold to £86.50 from Mr J Vellacott. Ram Lambs sold as store lambs are to be declared. Those lots so declared to not contain any ram lambs, which are found post sale to contain undeclared ram lambs, will attract a 25% reduction in the sale price of any ram lambs found.

Grazing Ewes & Rams (1127): Another large entry of 1127 grazing ewes and rams sold to a more difficult trade for the strongest ewes, however the medium and plain grazier types, helped by a large attendance of grazier buyers, were as strong for all forward. Best cattle in exceptional demand when all buyers bid keenly to secure stock. 14 buyers around the ring fuelled the trade.

Top was 215.5ppk for a quality Limousin heifer (540kg & 18m) from Mrs K Lock, who sold others at 215, 212.5, 204.5 and 194.5ppk. Other butcher’s weight heifers at 204.5 and 203.5ppk (597 & 565kg) for Limousins from Mr BA Richards. 204.5ppk was also bid for a smart 567kg Limousin from Mrs MJ Tuckett & Partners.

Steers sold to 209.5ppk for superb shape, lean continentals from Mr AJ Hepper & Son, who sold others at 205.5, 200 and 199.5ppk. Good conformation Limousins from Messrs W Moore & Sons, Mrs K Lock and Mr GR Baker & Son met calls of 208, 205 and 202ppk respectively.

Native steers hotly contested to 207.5 and 202.5ppk for Herefords and 196.5ppk for Angus from Mr PRS & Mrs EB Scott.

Further Hereford at 119ppk from Mr PF Patten and Simmental at 117.5ppk from Mr CHE Kidner.
