AMONG the lots already consigned for Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s next specialist Collector’s Sale, on December 2, is this idyllic photographic postcard showing the corner of Durleigh Road and Park Road in Bridgwater, circa 1910.
The absence of tarmac, signage, motor traffic and street lighting is noticeable, as is the ease with which children could amble and play outside in comparative safety. This image is one of a group of Bridgwater cards, that also includes a battalion of Great War soldiers marching over the river bridge at Eastover, a horse-drawn carnival float, and a local rugby team.
Other vendors have consigned cards of wider topographical, social history, railway, animal and Far Eastern interest and, as always, the sale will also feature cigarette cards, stamps, autographs, ephemera and books.
When it comes to postcards Greenslade’s has a solid reputation for securing the highest possible prices, so if you have a collection that you may wish to dispose of why not take advantage of our free, no-obligation valuation service?
