THE eagerly awaited quarterly collectors’ sale at Greenslade Taylor Hunt is just weeks away and there is plenty to tempt those looking for an early Christmas gift.

The scope and range of lots on offer will ensure a full day of collectors’ items going under the hammer at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, on Friday, December 2.

Items already consigned include a large, Great War era lacquered, wooden aircraft propeller and a Battle of Britain fighter pilot’s leather flight helmet.

Enamel advertising signs from the 1930s onwards will also feature in the sale. Among these is a large example extolling the virtues of Corona soft drinks and featuring a liveried deliveryman.

Another advertising sign comes from the now defunct Cookery Nook in Taunton. This glass sign, which would now fall foul of regulators, advertises Players cigarettes.

The sale will commence with a good section of gold and silver coins including some choice 17th Century and later offerings.

A well considered book section includes attractive, illustrated works by Arthur Rackham and Edward Dulac, many of which are signed, deluxe, limited editions.

The sale will also feature the next instalment of the Ken Wilson collection of magic lantern slides and optical items. This proved a big hit at the September quarterly collectors’ sale. Shown here is a hand painted slipper slide.

Comics are hugely collectable and a wide, range of DC and Marvel comics from a collector in Yeovil have been consigned to the sale.

Stamps are another staple of any collectors’ sale and the December one will feature a good example of a Penny Black.

An early cast brass locomotive makers plate dated 1919 will enthuse those with an eye for railwayana.

The sale, along with its monthly antiques counterpart, will be on view next Saturday (November 26) from 9am-12.30pm. For more details please contact the saleroom on 01823-332525.
