Weaners (79): Generally a quality entry of pigs and many more could have been sold well. Top price £50 from Mr MJ Stevens. Others £48 from Mr NJ Higgins and £46 x2 from Messrs RD & JA Hael. Average £29.54 per head.

Forward Stores (157): Good entry met a super trade with the weak pound making imports expensive. Top price £152 from Mr R Turner. Others £128 from Mr M Selley and £122 from Messrs R & ME Trott. Average £79.41 per head.

The first 50 were at U- or better. It was like the Christmas Show all over again. And what a trade! There was talk on Saturday of deadweight quotes dropping next week. Typical of the deadweight system but if the liveweight trade continues as it is, it will be very surprising if they are able to drop their prices.

Top was 223ppk for a near perfect red Limousin heifer (30m & 598kg) from Mr RJ, Mrs HA & Mr MR Popham, Highbridge. Another top drawer Limousin heifer (23m & 520kg) this time from Mr JF Walker & Partners, North Petherton shot to 217.5ppk. An outstanding run of heifers from Mr KJ & Mrs S Bishop, Enmore thrilled the ring at 214.5ppk (Lim, 27m, 524kg) 214ppk (Lim, 28m, 557kg) 211.5ppk (Lim, 28m, 499kg) 207.5ppk (Ch, 23m, 532kg) and 204ppk (Ch, 23m, 568kg). A very shapely Charolais heifer (26m & 515kg) from Mr TV & Mrs E Wotton, Newton Abbot rocketed to 211.5ppk.
