Dairy Cattle (56): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a small entry of 56 cows and heifers met a good demand, when heifers sold to £1700 and cows to £1680. Top price was £1700 for Messrs M & K Churchill, whose superb heifer, that was fresh a week, was already giving 26kgs. Other heifers to £1680, £1640 and £1620 for pedigree heifers from Messrs AR & NJ Branton. Mr A Ractliffe sold to £1630. Others to top £1500 were Messrs RL & ME Trott, Mr MC Powell and Messrs R & A Holder. Only a handful of quality cows forward to £1680 for a youthful second calver givng 35kgs from Mr MC Powell who also sold a cross bred cow to £1340.

Store Lambs (1418): Ram Lambs sold as store lambs are to be declared. Those lots so declared to not contain any ram lambs, which are found post sale to contain undeclared ram lambs, will attract a 25% reduction in the sale price of any ram lambs found. Similarly Cryptorchids are to be declared.

Hay: A marginal improvement on the February sale, when 6 string quadrants sold to £18 (ex farm) and £24 (delivered).

Haylage/Silage: Round bale silage to £10/bale. Others to £8/bale with reasonable interest at this level.

Straw: As anticipated more interest in the smaller delivered loads. 6 string oats to £35/bale and wheat to £34/bale.

Quality generally not at the level of recent weeks, which reflected. 750kg is heavy enough for steers. Several heifers too fat. When balls of fat start to appear at the tail head it’s too late.

A superb run of handy weight Limousin, Blonde and Blue heifers from Mr RW Fry, Long Sutton, 474 to 533kg, all on the leaner, tucked up and empty side hit 216.5 twice, 207.5 twice, 196.5 and 189.5ppk.
