CAPTIVATING lots of all shapes and sizes delighted sale-goers at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s monthly antiques auction at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

The saleroom was busy with buyers and a number of vendors keen to see their items go under the hammer.

A fine selection of quality jewellery and silverware dominated proceedings and accounted for 60% of the sale and this was reflected in some impressive prices.

A delighted vendor was absolutely thrilled to see her select entry of jewellery fresh to the market soar away with a number of eager buyers.

Among the beautiful pieces she had consigned to the sale was an Italian micro mosaic necklace circa 1870. This intricate item featured rectangular and round blue glass panels with mosaics of birds and insects.

A determined phone bidder secured the lovely necklace with a call of £2,000 – the top price of the day.

Watches retain their timeless charm and the April sale proved reliable in this respect with an 18 carat gold half hunter pocket watch, London 1926, fetching £900. The same sum was achieved for a gent’s Rolex Extra Prima.

Just behind these was a modern Tag Heuer Formula 1 Calibre 16 stainless steel example, which made £850.

There had been much pre-sale interest in a rare Royal Doulton Pierrette figure from the 1920s/1930s.. The attractive piece – the female companion to a Pierrot – which was in excellent condition - came from a local house clearance. The hand painted Art Deco style figurine was secured by a net bidder for £750.

This sum was also achieved for a late Victorian diamond ring, while a seven stone diamond cluster ring sold for £680.

Entries are now being accepted for the next sale, which takes place on Thursday, May 4. This sale will feature a large books, maps and documents section put together by experienced valuer Peter Rixon.
