A COFFEE service from the Sevres factory realised £600, in Tamlyns Auctioneers’ antique auction held on Wednesday, April 19.

The decoratively painted service of cavorting putto on Bleu Celeste background, with rich raised gilding, attracted considerable interest during the auction, before the hammer fell to a successful bidder on the phone. The service was one of many lots which attracted the buyers in the auction.

Jewellery performed very strongly, with an 18ct white gold ring set with sapphire and surrounded by diamonds in flower head form realising £500; a Norman Grant silver and enamel bracelet, £380; a 9ct gold fancy belcher link long guard chain, £340; and a butterscotch amber graduated bead necklace, £200.

In the silver section, a collection of modern silver cutlery from the United Cutlers factory in Sheffield realised £700. Further included was a silver fox mask stirrup cup, sold for £320; a George V salver, £280; a silver pint mug with foliate capped double scroll handle with guilloche decoration to the body and plain cartouche, £250; a two-handled silver trophy cup, £230; and a George V silver baluster shaped coffee pot, £200.

The watch and clock section of the auction saw a gentleman’s 9ct gold cased, “Rolex” wristwatch realise £420 and an 18ct gold half hunter fob keyless watch, the case with chased floral and foliate decoration realised, £400.

In the furniture and garden architectural section, a late 18th Century oak dresser base fitted with three elm fronted drawers and on four square supports realised £250; a late 19th/early 20th Century stripped pine dresser, £240; a 19th century D-end limestone trough, £250; and an Edwardian oak stationery cabinet, £180.
