Dairy Cattle (65): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a continued reduced entry of mainly heifers generated an improved trade, when calved heifers sold to £1850 for Messrs A & W Vigus of South Molton. £1840 from Messrs M & K Churchill, when others for the same Vendor sold at £1800 x2. £1830 for GP Cox’s Hampreston bred heifer and £1800 from Mr RH Webb. A Shorthorn calved heifer from Messrs RJ Goss & Son sold for £1580, when other crossbreds sold to £1280 for Mr RH Webb and incalf cows sold to £1020 for Whitehouse Farm.

Only a handful of cows forward sold to £1600 from Mr MC Powell. 9 month old Holstein heifers to £580 x2 for the The Colgrove Partnership. Holstein heifer calves to £250 from Messrs PD & SA Godfrey and crossbred calves to £210 for Barrowlands Farm Partnership.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a tremendous entry of 1280 stores, stirks and sucklers for early July, when 674 strong stores were on offer, which all sold to a very firm trade again. Some excellent runs attracted fierce bidding. With grass now beginning to dry up supplementary feeding will definitely start to pay off, as buyers are keen for forward types.

Top price was £1505 for a cracking pair of pure Blue heifers (21-23m) from Mr RW Biss, Yarley, when a Blue steer (21m) from the same farm topped the steers at £1470 – well done, superb breeding. Other Blue steers to £1290 (21m) from Mornacott Farms, Bishops Nympton. £1260 for a pen of four (23/26m) from Messrs R & BJ Woollacott, Clayhidon and others at £1215 (23/26m). Good types from Mr BR Elston, South Molton (19-20m) at £1205.

Limousins to £1405 for a super pair (25m) from Mr C Jones, Stogursey, when others sold at £1340 and £1310 from the same farm. Single Limousin from Steve Legg & Son, Hampton (26m) at £1255 and from Peter Summerfield, Oxford (26m) at £1245. Charolais to £1340 (24m) from Mr D Selway, Colyton and a pair (18 & 29m) from Messrs AP & SM Parris & Son, Taunton at £1270. Bulls still very keenly sought considering most cows will have already gone to bull. Limousin bulls rose to £2800 for Slough Lloyd, being a very shapely 25m type from Messrs M & M Gollop & Sons, Willand. Further Limousin bulls at £2500 twice, being 26m and 16m from the Nealford herd of Mr JH Neale & Son, Launceston. Charolais bulls keenly sought at £2650 (27m) and £2400 (27m) from Mr AS Cowling, Clatworthy (Clatworthy Herd). Others £2000 twice, 14 and 17m from Mr DT Daniel, Launceston. Simmental bulls to £2000 for Castle Hercules (16m) from Mr R Edmunds, Dorchester, having previously been placed second to its herd mate at Bath & West. Native cows sold to £1400 for Hereford cow with Hereford bull calf (3m) from the dispersal of Mr AR Flinders, Banwell, who sold other Hereford cows with Spring born Hereford steer calves at £1360 and £1320. £1500 was bid for a Hereford heifer with twin bull and heifer calves (1m) from Mr M Naish, Kenn, who also sold an Angus heifer with Limousin heifer calf (28 days) at £1300. Shorthorn with Limousin heifer (3m) at £1370 from Mr CTJ Ford, Chumleigh. £1320 twice for a Hereford heifer with Limousin bull (1m) from Mr M Naish again and a Hereford again with Angus steer (3m) from Mr B Calder, Wick. To alleviate pressure on the market capacity, the monthly suckler sale will be capped at 250 head. There will then follow on a provisional second suckler sale the week after if numbers demand.

Stock Rams (5): Charollais shearling sold to £390 (x2) from Mr J Harding.

Goats (11): A small entry saw strong nannies to £97 from Mr S Jack.

Fodder: Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a 21.1 tonne load of new season barley straw sold to £69/tonne (delivered) for Mr A Mansbridge. More due next week (weather dependent).

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a small entry compared to our last sale, mainly due to a reduced entry of weaners. Blistering trade for all classes especially the heavier fat pigs. Many more could have been sold to advantage.

Cull Sows & Boars (11): Average £128.10 and topped at £188 from Messrs LE Miller & Son. Others £153 from Mr J Burnett.

Weaners (30): A much reduced entry with tremendous competition for all pens. Average £48.73 and topped at £56 from Mr SJ Loveless. Others £52 from Mr R Speed and £50 from Mr D Yates.

Stores (47): Wonderful trade averaged £129.32 and topped at £168 from Mr J Baker. Others £144 and £143 from Mr J Baker; £128 from Messrs LE Miller & Son and Mr J Morris.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very tight entry of 69 cull cattle met a continuing very satisfactory trade. Several very frail cows forward but no harm, as we are riding high, that is exactly the time to sell such cows.
