GREENSLADE Taylor Hunt will play host to the final two sales of the year at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, when the monthly antiques auction and the quarterly collectors ’event get underway in December.

Forget Black Friday for a more satisfying purchase there is nothing to beat the thrill of the saleroom and the auctioneers are laying on a pair of sales to tempt all-comers.

The antiques sale on Thursday, December 7, offers a range of jewellery and silverware to suit all tastes and price points. Notable names featured include Tag Heuer, Longines and Gucci.

The painting section includes seven offerings by favoured local artist Harry Frier. The pick of these is probably a depiction of old houses in Bridge Street, Taunton. This has a pre-sale estimate of £250-£300.

An oil on board by 20th Century Russian artist Yuri Kapranolov is another interesting piece. A pencil portrait of a gypsy by Edward Seago is also included in this section.

Furniture has enjoyed substantial prices in recent sales. December’s auction will include an attractive, small oak Mouseman table with the requisite mouse on one of the legs. It is guided at £400-£600.

This sale will be followed on Friday, December 8, by the quarterly collectors’ auction. As ever this features an enormous range of lots from postage stamps to postcards. The stamps include an impressive 32 Penny Blacks!

There is a good collection of aviation prints signed by the aircrew and a notable section of medals and militaria including an unusual Military Cross group, which were awarded to a husband and wife.

A Greenslade Taylor Hunt collectors sale would not be complete without diecast models and the December auction has a good fleet represented.

There is also the final instalment of a collection of Formula 1 cars. These are 1/18 and 1/43 scale models. The dolls section includes an entry from well-regarded French maker Jumeau.
