Dairy Cattle (98): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a very large entry saw one of the more difficult trades of the year, when only a few of the best quality stirred up the bidding. Middle of the road heifers looked good value for money as generally purchasers switched off early for Christmas.

It was fitting that having lost one of our popular and regular Vendors Norman Taylor this year that son Robert should have consigned an outstanding non pedigree heifer that was our top price of the day at £2010. Other best types to £1730 and £1690 from Snook Ltd; £1700 Messrs J & A Williams; £1700 and £1600 from The University of Reading; £1680 from Messrs R Price & Co Ltd, Glamorgan and £1650 from Mr RH Webb.

Few best cows forward to £1600 x2 as part of a good consignment of cows and heifers from The University of Reading. Other cows to £1500 from Mr M Powell; £1420 from Messrs MPD & ED Kane, Ringwood and £1200 from Panda Holsteins.

Poultry (353): Next Sale: Saturday, January 27.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report a good quality entry of 353 clean plucked poultry, sold to a decent trade. The top price went to Mr A Carter, Dawlish for an excellently presented 31lb turkey which sold to £70. The top price goose forward from Mr CJ Clatworthy weighed 21lb and sold to £68, when others from the same home sold to £62. Medium weight turkeys in high demand sold to a solid trade, with geese similar. Heavier weights less in demand but still sold to a good trade.

Pigs (104): The Next Pig Market is on Saturday, January 6.

Greenslade Taylor Hunt report as expected a smaller entry for our extra pre Christmas pig sale. In particular fewer weaners and smaller stores forward. Cull and fat trade strong throughout.

Cull Sows & Boars (5): Small entry but those forward met a good trade and more could have been sold to advantage, when buyers were keen to fulfill their orders. Top price £80 and £78 from Mr S Whitaker. A single boar sold at £70.

Weaners (15): Small entry sold to a top of £22.

Forward Stores (82): Another good entry sold to a good buoyant trade. Top price £120 from John Baker and £119 from Messrs LE Miller & Son and Tina Stone. Many other pens sold for over £110.

Breeding Pigs (2): 12 month old gilt to £120.

Top was 145.5ppk for a pedigree Angus cow (FA) from Mrs UM & Mr RJ Venner, Woodington. An empty Blue cow (FA) from Mr RW & Mrs JE Tucker, Wells sold well at 138.5ppk. Further Blue cow at 134.5 from Messrs PC Lyons & Son, Winscombe. Very smart non assured Charolais cow at 127.5ppk from Mr JA & Mrs G Aldworth.
