ANTIQUES specialists Greenslade Taylor Hunt enjoyed an excellent 2017 and have a packed programme of sales for 2018.

The first sale of the year takes place at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, on Thursday, January 4. It will feature a significant selection of 20th Century design curated by specialist Simon Rayner.

In excess of 200 lots have been consigned to the 20th Century section of the sale and it is a “must attend” for aficionados of the era. Among items offered will be an era evoking black leather and rosewood laminate lounge chair and matching ottoman after Charles and Ray Eames.

A striking pair of ‘Orange Slice' chairs upholstered in red leather, on chrome tubular supports by Pierre Paulin for Artifort are guided at £200-£300.

Three commemorative mugs by Eric Ravilious for Wedgwood will also feature. Two entitled a 'Firework Display' were designed for the 1937 coronation of King Edward VIII, in blue and yellow colourways. They each have pre-sale guides of £100-£150, while another, to mark the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 is guided at £80-£120. It is in a pink and yellow colourway.

The sale will be on view on Tuesday, January 2, and Wednesday, January 3, from 9am-5pm. There will be a further opportunity to view on the morning of the sale from 8.30am.

The February sale takes place on Thursday, February 1, and will include a number of paintings by Expressionist artist Ernst Neuschul.

March sees the first double sale of the year with the regular antiques sale on Thursday, March 1, and the first of the comprehensive quarterly collectors’ sales on Friday, March 2. Masterminded by Dr Peter Rixon the collectors’ sale features the desirable and the unusual.
