FANS of 20th Century design are in for a treat at Greenslade Taylor Hunt today (Thursday, January 4) as the auctioneers play host to 200 lots from the genre at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton.

The event gets under way at 10am with the regular monthly antiques auction, which will be augmented by the delights of 20th Century design. This part of the sale has been carefully put together by valuer Simon Rayner, who is a devotee of the era.

Among items likely to interest buyers are an appealing black leather and rosewood laminate lounge chair after Charles and Ray Eames. It has a matching ottoman of recent manufacture and a pre-sale estimate of £300-£400.

A large –metre high – Folk Art sculpture of a stylised rooster is sure to raise a smile and it is guided at £80-£120.

If you are unable to attend today’s auction another section of 20th Century design will be included in the auctioneers July sale.

Auction dates for the coming year have now been fixed and a full programme is available to collect from the saleroom.

The February sale takes place on Thursday, February 1, and will include a number of paintings by Expressionist artist Ernst Neuschul.

March sees the first double sale of the year with the regular antiques sale on Thursday, March 1, and the first of the comprehensive quarterly collectors’ sales on Friday, March 2. Masterminded by Dr Peter Rixon the collectors’ sales feature the desirable and the unusual.

The much-anticipated Spring Sporting Sale takes place on Thursday, April 5, while the May sale on Thursday, May 3, will include a significant section of books and maps.

Free valuation mornings take place each Monday at The Octagon Salerooms between 9am and 1pm. A full set of experienced valuers is on hand to advise on valuations for all purposes including insurance, probate and family division.
