A FINE selection of timepieces are featured in Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s February antiques auction and it looks like the March sale will follow suit.

At the February sale at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, all types of watches drew interest from the room, online and on the phone. A quality 18 carat gold half hunter pocket watch was secured for £1,100 by a room bidder. A phone line was successful with a second similar model circa 1900, which was sold for £1,050. The ever-reliable Rolex brand proved reassuringly saleable. A net bidder paid £700 for the Oyster perpetual gentleman’s stainless steel watch.

The March sale, which takes place on Thursday, March 2, will also include a smart 18 carat gold half hunter pocket watch dated London 1900. It has a pre-sale guide of £500-£700.

Luxury brand, Garrard & Co Limited is also represented with a case containing a Vertex lady’s mechanical set cocktail watch on a bracelet. This classy number is set with 18 single cut diamonds with a graduated trio of single cuts to the baton lugs. The two piece hinged case is stamped 'Platinum', with engraved decoration and monogrammed, housing a signed Swiss made 15 jewel movement, on a nine carat white gold snake link like bracelet. It weighs 13.4g gross excluding the movement. It is guided at £150-£200.

Gentlemen are not forgotten either as there is an Omega Geneve mechanical watch in a gilt case, which should attract plenty of interest.

The sale will feature plenty of ceramics including a Moorcroft 'Kapok tree’ pattern vase with typical tube lined decoration on a blue/green to cream ground, 13.5cm high is also featured in the sale. It has a pre-sale estimate of £100-£150.

March sees a double set of sales as the first of the quarterly collectors’ sales takes place on Friday, March 3. Entries for this eagerly awaited event are now closed. It will include a comprehensive range of collectables including a significant focus on railwayana.

As well as a busy programme of sales the auctioneers are hosting a series of advisory visits at branch offices. These provide free verbal valuations and advice and also provide vendors with the opportunity of consigning entries for the monthly antiques, quarterly collectors and biannual sporting sales.

On Saturday, February 18 the auctioneers will be at Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Junction 24, North Petherton, between 10am and 12noon.

On Monday, March 6, they will visit the Bridgwater residential office at 31-33 High Street between 2pm and 4pm. On Thursday, March 16, they will be at the Ilminster office, 15 East Street, between 9am and 11am. The same day they will visit the Chard office at 1 High Street, between 12noon and 2pm.

Entries can still be consigned for the March antiques sale and for the biannual Spring Sporting Sale, which takes place on Friday, April 7. For more information please contact the saleroom on 01823-332525.
