Others to £1660 and £1620 being part of Messrs RL & ME Trott’s consignment of 10 heifers. Busk Calves & Stirks (291): Greenslade Taylor Hunt report an average size entry was met by yet another fantastic trade, when quality was at a real premium. Top price was £1020 for a superb 11m Blue steer from Mr AGF Lockyer, closely followed by Messrs SW Clapp & Son who made £1015 for a 12m Limousin steer. £1005 for an 11m Limousin steer from Messrs WPD & MR Robinson when a Blue sold to £990. Other notable entries from Mr DJ Cheacker, which made £950, £905 and £900 for 11m old Limousin steers. The usual smart entry from Mr B Calder saw an 8m Charolais steer to £910 when another sold to £885 – well done. Other Charolais steers to £880, £845 and £790. Few top quality Simmentals forward when the best achieved £795 (10m) from Messrs HR & BM White & Sons.

Native breeds to £680 for an Angus steer from Messrs Taylor & Son.

The heifer average slightly down on the week, which was no reflection on the trade. Top heifer price was £845 for a 14m Limousin from Mr SW Clapp who also made £750 for another. A show potential Blue (11m) from Mr AGF Lockyer met a call of £785. Other Limousins (11m) £765 from Messrs RJ & KJ Tucker and £760 from Messrs CA & B Jarvis. Quality generally not at the level of recent weeks, which reflected. 750kg is heavy enough for steers. Several heifers too fat. When balls of fat start to appear at the tail head it’s too late.

A superb run of handy weight Limousin, Blonde and Blue heifers from Mr RW Fry, Long Sutton, 474 to 533kg, all on the leaner, tucked up and empty side hit 216.5 twice, 207.5 twice, 196.5 and 189.5ppk.
