ONE definition of Quirky as seen in th e Cambridge Dictionary defines quirky as “unusual in an attractive and interesting way.

”Quirkyit would appear to be ‘hot’ in the antique world as seller s ar e lookin g fo r it as they know buyers want to get their hand on it-it being quirky.

Quirky when yo u ar e lookin g in th e world of car boots or antique fairs cannot be defined, it is something when you see it, you know it is right, you know it is what you wanted.

It is like the old adage about art, “I know what I like and I know what I don’t.

”I like many other buyers believe I know what quirky is and in this week’s Lozza’s Loot I will share with you some quirky items.

First up on the quirky convey belt would be a traveller box which contains a bower hat.

The box caught my eye first an d then I realised there was a hat inside it.

The hat actually fits me, which was remarkable.

The travel box has scenes of different modes of travel around it like a train or a car etc and gives the name of th e company which is Rogers Peet.

Inside there is a bowler hat which is of very good quality and made in Glasgow.

I thought it was a quirky item and while being quirky could be something which can be used.

Somerset County Gazette:

Where and when I will use it, I am yet to decide, but a hat is a hat.

And if you were to sell the two items separately you would make money maybe as much as if you sold them together.

Both together would be better as they are a partnership.

Somerset County Gazette:

Second up is a sweet scales. It is what you would call an old fashioned sweet scales which would have been used in a sweet shop.

The scale are in perfect working order.

Th e item is in pristin e condition. Why buy it? For me it was different and that was a buying point.

The other was it is a practical item as it is a scales an d will weight small objects such as sweets or fruits or ingredients when cooking.

And that is where you could place it.

In a kitchen where it can be used and would also look very good. It would become ‘a talkin g point’.

Third I would put forward seve n to y wooden soldiers. They are exactly what they say they are, no escaping that at all.

They are wooden version of the guards who stan d outside Buckingham Palace.

These soldiers are quintessentially British.

Somerset County Gazette:

They can be used for decoration and as they fell into the field of quirky I bought them.

My advice is when you spot quirky you should recognise it. It should scream out at you and you should instantly know what you are lookin g at in an instant.

Remember quirky does not have to mean practical, it can be purely decorative. If you spot quirky and you like it, then I would say buy it.

Be big, be bold and be brave.
