THE Aimhigher Peninsula Programme is this week asking DID you know?

That:

  • Half of the jobs expected to become vacant by 2020 will be ones that need higher qualifications
  • You can study the way you want while you work with part time, flexible and distant learning
  • You don't have to go away to study for a degree - there are 445 Foundation Degrees offered in the South-West, mainly in local colleges
  • There are many different routes onto university level courses, not just A-levels - you could do a NVQ, a Modern Apprenticeship, a BTEC or Access Course and study for your qualification while you work. Work based learning is also a way into higher education A programme spokesman said: "To be successful in today's employment market, you must take responsibility for continually improving your skills and understanding. You need to continue learning throughout your working life."

The programme is running the following events:

  • Construction Matters, on March 5 from 9.30am-3pm.

Aimhigher and Somerset College, Taunton, are hosting the day long rolling programme to include short talks, display stands from construction trades and associated educational and business organisation, demonstrations by students, tutors available for course discussions; tours of the division and information on progression career choices and progression to Higher Education from all participating organisations.

  • Health, Care and Early Years Industry Day, March 10, 9.30am-3pm An Aimhigher and Somerset College event to explore these career sectors and raise awareness of the possibilities. There will be professionals from health, care and early years present to given information and advice, stands from allied professions, and talks and demonstrations by students.
