Bishops Lydeard Party in the Park, successfully reborn in 2010, will once again be the last big bash before the school holidays end.

There will be four bands and sets from two DJs when the party kicks off at 5pm on September 1.

Headlining are Yes Sir Boss, a band whose heavy blend of horn-led hooks, offbeat rhythms and epic riffs got them signed to Joss Stone’s label.

Local band Antarctica and The Darlingtons, with their moody, euphoric brand of guitar music, are back as support. DJ sets from DJs Smiffy and Dubble D will intersperse the sets.

Co-organiser Chris McKie said: “There are big prizes for the best fancy dress this year. There's no theme. Come as whatever you like.”

There will also be the usual gazebo competition, in which party-goers are encouraged to decorate their gazebos in a theme of their choice. Mike Rigby, who organises the event with Chris, said: “This year we’ll also be running a beer and cider festival following positive feedback about the wider range of beers that we put on last year.

“We’ve also made tickets available on-line, via our Facebook shop, for the first time following lots of requests last year from people who don’t live locally.”

See www.facebook.com/|BLPiP Local people can obtain tickets from pubs and shops in Bishops Lydeard and Cotford St Luke. A shuttle coach will get Cotford folk to and from the event.

Plenty of food vendors will be on-site together with bouncy castles and activities for youngsters.

The first 750 tickets sold will be discounted to £7 (17 and over) and £5 (for youngsters aged five to 16).

After that tickets will be full price (£12/£7) – under-fours free. Gates open at 4pm.
