Writing styles

JOIN a writing workshop where your story about everyday life could be performed by professional actors.

The Show of Strength theatre company is holding three events in February inviting people to produce a monologue.

The best will be selected to be read out at shops and businesses in Burnham and the surrounding area. The workshops will be held on the following dates and locations. Tuesday, February 2 at the Crafty Tea Cup on Victoria Street 10am until noon; Thursday, February 11 at the Round Tower Guest House on the Esplanade between 2pm and 4pm.

If evenings are more suitable the Court Yard Bar at the Royal Clarence Hotel is the final venue between 7pm and 9pm on Wednesday, February 17. More details by email to boscommunitytheatre@hotmail.com.

Funny family favourite

HAVE a laugh with the family’s favourite funnyman and occasional disco dancer Patrick Monahan.

His UK tour includes a stop at the Bridgwater Arts centre where he reminisces about being an immigrant to Great Britain and the joy of a flashing disco ball.

This is a laugh out loud show that is both thoughtful and smart as well as brilliantly silly.

Tea and tunes on offer

TAKE tea with a loved one at the Rumwell Farm Shop which is hosting a Valentine’s meal on Saturday, February 13.

Singer and guitarist, Andy Doran, will be performing a selection of love songs during the event.

Anne Mitchell, Joint Owner of the farm shop and café, which is located on the A38 between Taunton and Wellington, said: “We are very excited to be hosting our first ever evening event solely in our café.

“People who attend will be treated to a five course meal while enjoying background music performed by Andy, who has more than 35 years’ experience as a professional musician.

“His repertoire includes a variety of classic and modern cover tracks.” February 13 from 7pm until 11pm.

The farm shop will not be open during the evening.

Use your vocal chords

LOVE to sing? The West Somerset Singers are holding a come and sing day on Saturday, January 30 at Taunton Baptist Church, from 2.30pm.

The choir is inviting anyone who loves singing to rehearse and perform Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo.

The cost to take part is £7 with music provided.

Charity music night

ENJOY a musical evening and help raise funds for the endoscopy unit at Musgrove Park Hospital.

Hosted by Theodora Poole, a volunteer at the unit, the concert takes place at St Andrew’s Church Hall on Saturday, February 13 from 7.30pm. There will be six musicians performing at the event. Tickets are £6, children free. For more information contact Miss Poole on 07927 832816.

Band to warm the night

IT may be cold outside, but rock band, Antartica, will turn up the heat at the Lamb & Flag at Blagdon Hill, on Saturday, January 30. The music starts at around 8.30pm and there will be a disco. Entry is free.

Take the yellow brick road

BOO the baddies and cheer on the goodies at The Wonderful Wizard of oz panto from the Wellington Pantomime Group.

Walk with Dorothy along the Yellow Brick Road where she meets some amazing characters including the cowardly lion and the tin man. Animals on show

SEE and make examples of Somerset wild animals at the Museum of Somerset.
