SOMETHING special has been taking place at Taunton’s Brewhouse this week.

Respected writer and director Chris Fogg has been working in the studio all week in readiness for the national preview of his new play ‘ Tree House ’ which opens at the Theatre on Tuesday, November 15.

The new play has been written by Fogg with design by Mayou Trikerioti, illustrations by Richard Manders and features live music on stage, composed and performed by Celloist Sarah Moody.

Tree House explores the plight of young people trying to get their first foot on that elusive property ladder through the intertwining stories of three friends growing up in the same village as children, whose adult lives lead them in different and surprising directions with tragic results.

It relates the fortunes of three people – Robbie, Jane and Alan – who are first encountered as children playing in a tree house on a piece of waste ground on the edge of a village.

The play follows them as they grow up and begin to navigate their own way along the different rungs of the social and property ladder.

Jane goes into law, politics and the media; Alan pursues a career in property, finance and the City; while Robbie joins the Army, carries out several tours of duty in Afghanistan, defusing roadside bombs, where a spontaneous act of kindness leads to a sudden and unexpected tragedy.

Some years later fate conspires to bring all three back to the waste ground, back to the tree house, where old scores are settled in a final act of reckoning.

A story for our times. A play for today.

The three leading actors are: Anthony Cozens (Alan) whose credits include ‘Legend’, ‘Van Wilder 2 – The Rise of Taj’ and ‘Sherlock’; Robert Durbin (Robbie) has appeared with the Royal Shakespeare Company: and Sarah Lawrie (Jane), an established theatre and radio performer.

To mark the occasion there is a free pre-show discussion with Chris Fogg at 7pm to be held in the Westward Room of the theatre.
