AFTER their recent nomination as finalists in the Devon Performance Awards, Substance and Shadow Theatre return with The Brexit Club.

It’s June 23 - the day of the Euro Referendum and just an ordinary lunchtime in the works canteen for cousins Len Silver, Melvyn Gould and their workmates, but beneath their love of haute cuisine and jovial banter there's trouble brewing.

Sid's Vishnu's lentil Dahl and Don Beattie's bangers and mash are emblems of a nation divided.

Family bonds and friendships are polarised by politics, but in the cold light of the referendum hangover, whether leave or remain – will lunchtimes ever be the same again?

Is Brexit really the best thing since sliced bread, will cousins Len and Melvyn manage to bridge the great divide, or will they be left crying over spilt milk?

The Brexit Club takes a tongue-in-cheek look at the conflict, confusion and commotion that caused a maelstrom of bewilderment around the EU Referendum.

Midge Mullin, co-director of Substance and Shadow Theatre, said: “We wanted to explore the way in which the EU referendum came crashing into our homes, our workplaces, our pubs and suddenly careered through the front rooms of the nation causing chaos. Amidst all the confusion, misinformation and fears, people found themselves asking the question - how can our family and friends be so fundamentally different from who we are and how we see the world?”

Substance and Shadow Theatre present a black comedy that will have you chewing over the remains of the great Brexit debate and deciding between a full English or a continental.

The show will be performed at the Creative Innovation Centre (CIC) on March 15 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 and can be purchased online at creativeinnovationcentre.co.uk or on the door.
