A true legend of British music will be appearing at the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton this month.

Maddy Prior, who is an English folk singer, best known as the lead vocalist of Steeleye Span, will be performing on Tuesday, March, 29.

The group were formed in 1969 and work in the genre of folk-rock which they helped define.

They reached a peak of commercial success in the 70s with ‘All Around my Hat’ and ‘Gaudete’ gaining chart recognition. They last toured in 2013.

Maddy ‘s distinguished career has been built upon her exploration of a number of musical avenues.

To many she is a household name from her time with Steeleye Span and The Carnival Band but this Spring she is out on tour with her own project that has been inspired by nature and birdsong.

Together with new musical partners Giles Lewin (Carnival Band) and young accordion player Hannah James, Maddy will perform the music of England, the British Isles and Eastern Europe – all delivered in her own unique style.

In 2001 Maddy Prior was awarded the MBE for services to folk music and in 2014 she received an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Cumbria.

Since 2003, Maddy has run and hosted an Arts Centre called Stones Barn in Cumbria.

Working with fellow singers and performers like Abbie Lathe and daughter Rose Kemp, Maddy has offered residential courses focusing on singing, meditation, cookery and performance.

Tickets for the gig, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £16.50.
