THIS is being billed as four plays for the price of one.

The Princess Theatre in Burnham-on-Sea will be the place to be to go for theatre goers on April 9.

This is when the Wessex Division Final of the All England Theatre Festival will be fun and a wonderful opportunity to see directing, acting and stage presentation at its most polished level.

Audiences are set to be served up highquality entertainment since all four of the one-act plays to be presented have already triumphed at their County-wide, competitive preliminary rounds.

Winners will come from Festivals at Avon, Bristol and Somerset and compete to progress to the area final and perhaps through to the English and British finals.

In the nature of all theatre festivals, the subjects and styles are wide-ranging: both laughter and intrigue are guaranteed.

The timetable is as follows: The afternoon session starts at 2pm with ‘Purvis’, by Nick Warburton performed by Ilminster Entertainments Society, Somerset.

This play is about a wellmeaning, caring and initially lovable character who is totally inept and insensitive to the chaos left in his wake.

Next up is ‘Tomcat’, by James Rushbrooke performed by St Albans Players, Bristol.

The evening session starts at 7pm.

This begins with ‘Top Girls’, by Caryl Churchill performed by The Actonians, Bristol.

Then it is ‘To John’, by Lorna Evans staged by the Taunton Thespians, Somerset.

This is the true story of an amazing man. It charts his life from World War II schooldays through the years of the Cold War where, as a Vulcan bomber captain, he spearheaded our front line of defence.
