TIM van Eyken will be flying the flag for Somerset when he appears in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead which will be broadcast live from The Old Vic theatre in London to the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton.

David Leveaux’s new production which stars Daniel Radcliffe marks the 50th anniversary of the play that made a young Tom Stoppard’s name overnight.

Against the backdrop of Hamlet, two hapless minor characters, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, take centre stage.

As the young double act stumble their way in and out of the action of Shakespeare’s iconic drama, they become increasingly out of their depth as their version of the story unfolds.

Tim who comes from Bristol is not only an acto but a folk singer who has released two solo albums plus appeared on five others.

Tim said: “I came to acting late as I was involved in folk music before I became seduced by the theatre. The folk music “I was involved with was the type with told a story and so it was a natural development for me to get into acting.

“I enjoyed telling stories so by getting into acting meant I was telling another story.

I went to Wells Cathedral School which had an excellent drama department and maybe that planted a seed in my head.

“I fell into become a musician and my first acting part was as a folk musician in the War Horse.

“It was after getting this part that I went to drama school when I was in my 30s.

“I have always loved performing and one of the bets feelings I get from it is the commandery from the group of actors you are with.

“With this production of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead we have been doing it for 18 months before it will be broadcast live so we have a certain amount of continuity with the performance.

Somerset County Gazette:

“I play Laertes but I am also an understudy to Guildenstern and if I had to play this part then someone will fill in another role.”
