FROM the Brewhouse Theatre in Taunton to a Hollywood blockbuster playing Batgirl could be the badge of glory which one actress hopes she can put on her CV.

Somerset actress, Kate Marie Davies, has launched a one woman social media whirlwind to try and catch the eye of director Joss Whedon in her bid to be considered for the role of Batgirl.

Joss who directed Buffy the Vampire Slayer said he was looking for an unknown actress for the part.

Kate, 35, who comes from Bristol, has seen her efforts capture the imagination of her Twitter followers who are doing all they can to make her dream come true.

She said: "I have been lucky with my social media followers who have got behind me in the past three weeks.

"I hope I can make waves and what this will do is get me noticed and if I get a call to send in a tape for a Batgirl audition then it would be a success.

"I think the way I have looked at it there can only be positive results. By making waves I hope I will be considered for similar roles and get my profile lifted.

"I am known for Indie films and to go from these to a Hollywood blockbuster is a big leap but why not?

"If other people are getting behind me then it is not impossible.

"I have only been doing this campaign for three weeks but I have enjoyed getting people involved in it.

Somerset County Gazette:

"I have tagged Joss Whedon in some pictures but the main thing is to work around him and get other people to pick up on what I am doing.

"I have been doing #showreelshareday which is great and it has helped me get noticed and contacted by United Agents.

"I am looking at doing a short film clip about Batgirl with me in costume but I want to get it right and it is important for me as an actress to get things right and be professional.

"This #Batgirl might have a lot of momentum but it also might fizzle out. I will know when to stop and not go on too long.

"With the support of my followers they will help me get it in the radar using the hashtags #KateDaviesForBatgirl and #batgirl And Kate's link to the town is this is where she got her first acting job in 2002 when she left acting college.

She added: "It was for three months so was a bit like doing a Christmas panto. I loved it and as I had only left college to get an acting job made me feel part of the acting industry.

She was a member of the Taunton Theatre Company and appeared in a musical murder mystery called Something's a Foot.

So it really could be a case of from the Brewhouse Theatre to Batgirl in one giant superhero leap for this Somerset actress.
