ANEW tour de force in British comedy is aiming to be a maestro at the Wells Comedy Festival.

Kieran Hodgson is a rising star which is shining brightly and will get brighter and bigger in the next few years.

He is bringing his smash hit comedy Maestro to the festival.

This is the highly anticipated follow up to his Foster’s Comedy Award Nominated show Lance, which was one of the most talked about shows of the 2016 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Speaking about Lance he said: “Lance was a very powerful play of Shakespearian stature. When I did the show it was from a reaction of being let down.

“I was a teenager when Lance Armstrong was in his prime and winning the Tour De France.

“He disillusioned me and a lot of my contemporaries.

“I used it as the basis for my show.

This new hour of comedy traces Kieran’s musical roots as he attempts to conduct a symphony.

In 2003 Kieran Hodgson heard the music of Gustav Mahler and decided to write a symphony, 13 years later and he is taking to the stage with a story about falling in love and attempting something far beyond his abilities.

He creates a story about trying to find love when you’re the kind of loser who writes classical music instead of playing football.

He said: “I have an interest in classical music in the sense I wanted to write a symphony.

Somerset County Gazette:

“I have linked my passion for doing this to my doomed love affairs.

“It is good to have something of yourself in the show but I was scared of putting too much of myself in.

“The whole show took a year to write.

“Three months to write, then another three months to re-write it, another three to make sure it was good enough and then another three to hone and tinker with it on stage.”

The Wells Comedy Festival runs from May 26-28.
