THIS is Carry on Cleo for darts fans.

Carry on Cleo gave us the immortal line delivered by Kenneth Williams as Julius Caesar which went: "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!"

The infamy is the fame which is bestowed on Rex but comes with a massive double edge sword which cuts him deeply both emotionally and physically.

And this in a nutshell is what Rex the King is about. You have a darts player who is given his dreams on a plate and they suddenly touch to ashes in his mouth.

The play gives us an insight into how people yearn and crave for fame and glory and itch for the wealth, glitz and glamour which they want it to be wrapped up in.

Rex the King is a love story with darts at its heart and what better location to put on a play than in a pub.

Somerset County Gazette:

The Wassail Theatre Company have scored an impressive 180 with this idea and with its production of Rex the King.

When I saw the play it was at The White Hart in Wiveliscombe and you could smell the fish and chips suppers in the air and you could cut the taste with your arrows.

Rex the King is the new darts dynasty but like a King John or a Richard III, the crown does not sit well on his head and you know it will topple off but what will cause it to fall is the bitterest of twists.

The play has three main actors, James Peake who is Rex, Bronya Deutsch who plays Kezza, Magdalena, Craig, Imelda, Tristan, Lucy and Englebert and Greg Gall who is the composer/musical director, Disco Dennis, Ulrich, Killer, quiz show Les and David Driscoll.

The play is engaging, engrossing and enthralling.

It hits the bullseye of emotion, taking you up and down on a dartist rollercoaster of life.

Rex who is then known as the Prince of Thebes, is playing in a small county league tournament at the local pub The Sphinx, when he encounters Mystic Magdalena's Emporium and learns his future both good and bad.

Somerset County Gazette:

What we witness is tinged with poignancy which is when the bitter tears flow.

If you have a spare evening then get down to the nearest pub where Rex the King will be playing and get on the oche and watch a star be born.

And in the words of Disco Dennis: "Will be you be staying around for the disco?"
