THE Ilminster Annual Open is a popular art competition that is open to professional and amateur artists, who submit their work to be appraised by a judging panel.
The resulting month-long exhibition at the Arts Centre is a unique showcase of art works in a variety of media by well-known names as well as by emerging artists.
The exhibition is greatly enjoyed by local visitors, as well as those travelling to and from holiday destinations.
The event, which is sponsored by Branston of Seavington, has become a byword for quality and creativity.
Artists taking part are competing for £850 in prize money and the chance to take part in a prizewinners’ exhibition at the Arts Centre in 2018.
There is also a ‘people’s prize’ in which visitors to the exhibition can vote to award the artist they think should win.
The opening event takes place on Monday, August 7, 5pm - 6.30pm, when the winners will be announced. It is free admission.
All welcome.
